Why Anvil Systems

Technology doesn't
fail in isolation.

Fix the architecture but ignore the team, and nothing ships. Restructure the team but skip the process, and quality collapses. Anvil Systems aligns people, process, and product to make technology predictable, reliable, and ready for what's next.

The Key Three
People Team structure · Culture · Hiring · Org design · Leadership development
Process Delivery cadence · Quality systems · CI/CD · Information flow · Ops workflows
Product Architecture · Infrastructure · Compliance · Platform strategy · Cost optimization

Leverage AI across all three as an accelerant.

Engagement Models

Six ways to
work together

Engagements fall into two categories. Leadership engagements are ongoing relationships, providing presence, judgment, and accountability. Project engagements have a defined scope, a defined deliverable, and a clear endpoint.

Leadership Ongoing · Monthly retainer
01

Fractional CTO

Ongoing technology leadership on a part-time basis. Embedded inside your team working on the problems that matter to your business. Best for companies that need ongoing technology leadership without a full-time CTO.

5, 10, or 20 hours per week Dedicated weekly meeting windows
3 Month Minimum
02

Interim CTO

Full-time technology leadership providing coverage and continuity during a CTO transition. Focused on stabilizing the team, hiring, and onboarding a new CTO, then handing off smoothly. Optional transition to Strategic Advisor after handoff.

Full-time or near full-time Structured transition plan
6 Month Minimum
03

Strategic Advisor

A trusted technical voice for boards, leadership teams, and founders offering seasoned guidance on technology strategy and critical decisions without the hands-on commitment of a fractional CTO.

5 hours per week Dedicated monthly meeting windows
3 Month Minimum
Project Scoped · Upfront pricing
04

Technical Due Diligence

An independent technical assessment for investors evaluating an acquisition, or startups preparing for investor scrutiny. Scoped and agreed upfront, delivered as a written report covering architecture, team, risk, and technical debt.

Fixed Fee
05

Platform Build

Greenfield builds, major platform rebuilds, and legacy modernization. Architecture is part of the engagement because you don’t build the right platform without designing it first. Every build is designed for scale, long-term maintainability, and clean handoff to your team.

3 Month Minimum
06

Architecture Design Session

A structured multi-day working session for teams facing major technical obstacles or needing architectural guidance on compliance, complexity, or other critical decisions. The engagement ends with documented recommendations your engineering team can execute.

Fixed Fee

Every engagement starts with a minimum commitment. Month-to-month is available after the initial term. Every engagement ends with a clean handoff: documentation, context, and a plan for what happens next.

Common Questions

Before you reach out

What's the difference between a fractional CTO and a consultant?
A consultant delivers a recommendation and leaves. A fractional CTO operates inside your team, attending standups, making architecture calls, mentoring your engineers, and being accountable for outcomes over time. The relationship is ongoing, not transactional.
How long do engagements last?
Leadership engagements start with a 3 or 6 month minimum. Most clients continue beyond the initial term. Project engagements have defined timelines agreed upfront. The goal is always to build internal capability, not to create dependency.
Do you work with pre-revenue startups?
Yes, but only when there's a real technical challenge that justifies the engagement. If you're pre-revenue and need help with architecture decisions, team building, compliance groundwork, or fundraising preparation, a fractional CTO can be the most cost-effective path. If you just need code written, you need an engineer. We can help you find and hire the right one.
How do I know which engagement model is right?
If you need ongoing technology leadership, start with Fractional CTO. If your CTO just left and you need coverage now, that's Interim CTO. If you have a technical team but need outside perspective on key decisions, Strategic Advisor. If you have a specific deliverable in mind, look at the project engagements. Not sure? That's what the discovery call is for.
